Changing times in the Chew Valley

If you’ve been brought up in a rural area you might take having a butcher’s shop for granted. We have been fortunate to have had generations of the Pearce family providing us with a traditional service which has been greatly appreciated.

But now, our Chamber member, Clifford Pearce and his family, have decided the time has come to hand over the reins to a new butcher.

Who has not enjoyed the pleasure of the always convivial welcome and the lively conversation whilst purchasing from the range of available products on offer ?

Any visit to the shop was as much a social occasion as the mere purchase of food for the table. It’s a perfect example of the very best of local business with a great character offering a personal service, but someone who goes much further than that, fully immersing himself in local life, whether that was enthusiastically supporting events like the Ploughing Matches or being ever present in the festive tractor parades.

We are fortunate to have had a number of people in the past who have been willing to go the extra mile for the Chew Valley community and we have members of the Chamber of Commerce who still keep that tradition alive, running their businesses and providing a top class service, but also contributing to local life, whether that is sponsoring events or just throwing themselves into whatever activities come up.

It really is what makes this area so special and forges such a strong link between businesses and the wider community. Economic success is good for the people running their businesses but it is also good for the residents who benefit from having goods and services close at hand and we are delighted that a new butcher will be continuing to provide the traditional high quality of service we have always enjoyed.

Although Clifford is departing from behind the counter, he will continue to be a big presence in the Valley and since he was one of the first members of our Chamber of Commerce, we will be bestowing upon him the accolade of “Life Member” which he thoroughly deserves.

All Chamber members will wish Clifford and his wife, Sue, and all their family our very best for the years to come.
